Read previewNoah Kagan, an early Facebook employee, may have worked for Mark Zuckerberg for only nine months, but he says the brief stint taught him a lot about Zuckerberg's management style. Then I got fired," Kagan wrote in an X post on Tuesday before launching into what he said were the "10 non-obvious lessons" he picked up from Zuckerberg. Kagan joined Facebook as a product manager in 2005, the same year Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard University to run the company full time. Representatives for Kagan and Zuckerberg didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours. Zuckerberg told employees in January 2023: "I don't think you want a management structure that's just managers managing managers, managing managers, managing managers, managing the people who are doing the work."

But some economists have argued that flawed historical economic data puts this claim in question. The further back you go — the NBER data goes to about 1850 — the more common recessions were. He said the NBER's pre-1914 recession data, in particular, is "very poor," and that only economic data collected after World War II is of good quality. "So the growing share of services also means you're going to have more stable economic growth." After years of living in dorms and subpar apartments, Lisa Li could not wait to close on her new home. The one-bedroom condo in Miami’s financial district had a view of the river, was in a safe neighborhood and, Ms. Li heard, had neighbors who were much like her — less party, more chill. So Ms. Li, a 28-year-old who came to the United States 11 years ago as a college student from China, put in an offer, had her bid accepted and began ordering furniture. At the last minute, the title company raised concerns about a small United States Coast Guard outpost near South Beach a few miles away. Under the law, Ms. Li could face prison time, and the sellers and real estate agents could be held liable.

The portfolio manager whisperers

AdvertisementHistorically, a hedge fund's chief investment office or senior portfolio manager was responsible for vetting and wooing key investment hires. They can also help hedge funds save on outside recruiting costs, which can add up to tens of millions a year. Hedge funds targeted institutional salespeople at investment banks with exposure to hedge funds, as well as asset allocators with chops in portfolio-manager selection and due diligence. Assets at multimanager hedge funds have boomed since 2018. The principle may work for fictional baseball diamonds, but the reality at hedge funds is more complicated.

Large technology stocks have continued to be a key driver of earnings growth. Wall Street analysts on Monday issued a bearish call on Club holding Honeywell International , citing its lagging stock performance and sluggish growth prospects. We're hopeful management can get the company back on track by reshaping its massive portfolio of far-flung businesses. Jim Cramer has acknowledged Honeywell's lackluster performance and urged CEO Vimal Kapur to reshape the company's portfolio. New York CNN —Boeing has achieved the unthinkable this week: It managed to fall even deeper into crisis. It ultimately approved the planes for shipments to airlines in March 2023 after becoming satisfied that Boeing had fixed the problem. Then, during the first weekend of 2024, part of an Alaska Airlines 737 Max blew off the side of the plane just after take-off, and Boeing has been in crisis mode ever since. In February, pilots on a United Airlines 737 Max reported that the flight controls jammed as the plane landed in Newark, New Jersey. The FAA is allowing the planes to continue flying and Boeing said the problem does not pose an immediate safety risk.

CNBC's Jim Cramer reviewed Tuesday's market action, saying stocks that saw losses — like Nvidia and Eli Lilly — remain winners but had simply run too much. "The stocks that pulled back today have everything going for them, except that they've already run so much that they've become vulnerable," he said. Cramer used Nvidia , one of his favorite stocks, as an example. He also suggested tax season played a role in deciding Tuesday's winners and losers. "What a terrific time to take some profits of winning stocks to pay for the stocks' gains," Cramer said.

Referendums protecting abortion access are on a winning streak nationwide, including in states far more red than Florida. Outside of Barack Obama’s 2008 and 2012 victories, Democrats have struggled to find success in Florida while Republicans are on a roll. The GOP now controls every statewide Cabinet office in Florida, its two US Senate seats and both state legislative chambers. In 2016, Trump won Florida despite a medical marijuana initiative on the ballot that Democrats hoped would aid their performance. “There is nothing more common than Democrats claiming they have some magical way to win Florida and they always come up short,” Power said.

Please note, that Abbott Laboratories is not listed below as we did not own the name before the company's earnings release. Real-estate agent commissions have hovered between 5% and 6% of the sale price for decades. If sellers are in a desirable market, they might start offering less commission to buyers' agents, or none at all. This would force buyers' agents to get more creative. It has made it clear that it doesn't want sellers offering compensation to buyers' agents.
